92.3 WTTS-FM, Indianapolis WTTS World Class Rock Report | George Carlin Obit

WTTS-Logo-FBFrom 2007 to 2011, I worked with AAA 92.3 WTTS-FM in Indianapolis in a variety of production and digital capacities including coordinator for their online live stream. During that time, I produced a sound rich weekday music news feature for both the stream and the website titled The World Class Rock Report, which was the station’s first move into podcasting.

As George Carlin is widely and deservedly eulogized as one of the great comedic minds of our time, it’s worth noting that his most famous routine had more of an influence on television and radio broadcasters take on the subject than the FCC ever did.

[Carlin Actuality]

And, see, that’s not exactly so. When that bit aired on a New York radio station, a complaint to the FCC resulted in a case that found it’s way all the way to the Supreme Court. But, in the end, the High Court has only upheld the FCC’s power to limit what broadcasters can and cannot say in broad terms and at what time of day. There is no actual list of seven forbidden words.

Still, George Carlin was a [SFX:bleep] genius.
